ARE YOU REAL?
alternative / indie pop
From the lo-fi songwriting of the beginnings to his recent electronic productions, Are You Real's music has always been the most authentic exploration of an inner world, magical and obscure. Behind the weird moniker is Andrea, singer-songwriter from Venice, Italy.
His debut album Songs Of Innocence was recorded with a band and supported by a small European tour. In the second album, Songs From My Imaginary Youth, Andrea got more personal, playing every instrument. In the recent songs, his music becomes electronic, both dark and dreamy.
I’ve always felt like I don’t belong in this reality. Like there was another world, somewhere. Music is my way to get there.
In 2018 Andrea founded the record label Beautiful Losers. Since then he has been working as a producer for other artists, like An Early Bird, About Blank, Gintsugi, A Red Idea, Mått Mūn, Alice Di Lauro. He’s actually recording his third album.
“All this time / I’ve been running like a ghost / and my life is what I miss the most / I am myself and maybe something else”

Two voices, a dark beat, an ethereal pop melody. This is Hunt Me Down, the first fruit of the unusual collaboration between the musician Are You Real? and the tightrope-walker and performer Alice Di Lauro. “We just worked on our voices” says Alice. “We wanted to talk about desire, need, contact. The spiritual nature of love. What we need in days like these.”
Recorded in a single session during the lockdown, the song is about our need of connection in times of isolation.

We have always loved Donnie Darko. That’s why we celebrated its 20 years with a rework of its famous soundtrack, originally written by Tears For Fears. In this new version, Are You Real? turns the song into an evocative electronic tune, with dark beats, dreamy synths and his intimate vocals. About Blank added his smooth vocals and atmospheric guitars.
The song was recorded during the lockdown and seems the perfect soundtrack for these uncertain, unreal times.

Between dreamy fairytale folk and raw alternative rock, this album couldn’t be more open-hearted and personal. People said it sounds like early Radiohead fronted by Bright Eyes playing Pearls Before Swine. In fact it sounds like someone taking you into his own world. Totally self-produced, it also the beginning of the creative process that will produce Beautiful Losers.
